Day 49

Day 49: Happy St. Patty’s day everyone!!

St. paty's day mani 2013

Gosh, I feel like I used so many colors for this manicure.

I definitely used OPI My Vampire is Buff as the base color. For the light green I used OPI Who The Shrek Are You. The darker green is OPI Your Palapa Or Mine?  (ulta exclusive). The gold is OPI Gift of Gold, and the rainbow I used OPI Dutch Ya Just Love OPI? (purple), OPI Suzi’s Hungary Again (pink), OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook (blue), and Pop Sunny (yellow).

The lines were created with an ultra thin striping brush that I purchased from Sally Beauty supply and the clovers were created with my dotting tool (has to be the ultimate nail artist must have) and the rainbow was created with a small brush.

Oh! I also used Hard Candy Matte-Ly In Love for my ring finger to give OPI Your Palapa Or Mine? a matte finish. I let the hard candy dry for a couple of minutes and then I took a piece of paper folded in half to make quilt dents in my nail. It is a little hard to see in this picture, but you want to be very gentle because you don’t want to slip an rip the paint off of your nail, but you really want to make a dent. If you only slightly make dents then the polish can come back together and you won’t see the quilting for very long. It is important to find that in between time where the lacquer is hardening, but still soft enough to make dents.

Happy polishing!

Missing in Aloha!

I know I haven’t posted much this week, and I apologize. And I hate to do this to you again, but I will be going on vacation to Hawaii this July 4th!!

For my Hawaiian manicure I wanted to something different. I didn’t want to do the Hawaiian sunset with palm tree silhouette. And I didn’t want to do just hibiscus flowers. So what did I choose?

Oh yes, yes I did.

Ok so she isn’t perfect, but she’s good enough for me. haha

How did I start? First I used OPI No Bees Please for my base color. For HK’s hula skirt, I used three different greens. First I taped off a french tip and with a thin, thin brush I made random strokes of OPI Greenwich Village, OPI Jade is the New Black, and OPI Who the Shrek Are You.

On my ring fingers and my left thumb I used OPI Swimsuit…Nailed it! from OPI’s newest Miss Universe Collection.  To create the hibiscus flowers I used OPI Alpine Snow.

To learn how to do the hibiscus flowers you can watch this video.

She isn’t perfect (her left eye is lopsided), but for HK’s face I used OPI San Tan-tonio, OPI Black Onyx for her eyes and PoP Beauty Sunny for her nose. For the hibiscus flower that replaces her bow, I used OPI You’re a Pisa Work.

Left hand:

Hello Kitty isn’t quite complete without a little pink and sparkles. On my left pinky and right thumb I used two coats of OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle and OPI I Lilly Love You. Both are packed full of little specks of glitter. Servin’ Up Sparkle also has large hexagon shaped glitters in a clear base. I Lilly Love You has small shards and triangle shaped glitters in a sheer pink base. Perfect for HK.

Right Hand:

I hope you enjoyed this one. And ALOHA!

Happy polishing!

The classic cherry blossom

Happy monday ya’ll!

Yes I have done a cherry blossom design on my nails for the first time. Most of it free hand, but I was a little too lazy to figure out how to draw cherry blossoms.

First I started out with OPI Pearls Night Out.

This is a very sheer pearl. It is very subtle and classic.

I then used OPI You Don’t know Jaques to paint on the branches of my cherry blossom tree and OPI Who the Shrek are You to dot on some leaves.

For the cherry blossoms I used just generic flowers from one of my konad plates stamped with OPI Charged Up Cherry. This was super easy! It seriously took me less than 5 minutes to do.

Let me know what you think!

Happy polishing!
