I’m Turning Japanese, I think I’m Turning Japanese

…wait a minute. I am Japanese.

So I’m sure I’ve left you all hanging, wondering about my “Japanese Nail Art” manicure. Well today is the day. I didn’t do anything super crazy, but I did spend a lot of time and hard work on this. I don’t think it’s perfect, but here it is.

Left Hand

Right Hand

I started out painting a neutral color, OPI Hearts & Tarts. H&T is a super cute color. It’s a sheer shimmery pink and is ultra shiny on it’s own.

OPI Hearts & Tarts

Next I prepared my nails for the reverse french tip design using Nailene Perfect Tips Strips. Always make sure your nail lacquer is completely dry before applying any tape or nail strips.

Using my guides I used OPI Funny Bunny as my tip color.  Funny Bunny is actually a funny white, oddly enough. It reminds me of glue. The consistency and the color at first is like Elmer’s glue. It’s slightly sheer, so if you guys are looking for a white nail polish that isn’t as bold as OPI Alpine Snow, I would recommend Funny Bunny. If you plan on painting the edges of the tip color then you don’t have to worry about the edges being perfect.

I ended up using OPI Gift of Gold to line the edges of my tips and for the tip of my thumb. You can try to use a toothpick for this part, but any brush that is super thin would be best. I really loved the way the gold complimented the white. On my right hand I used OPI Let Me Entertain You. I love this color, but what color don’t I love?  Let Me Entertain you is a bold, glittery fuchsia. On my left middle finger and my right index finger I painted a tiny heart with a small dotting tool. Here’s how.Pick your color, here I have OPI Let Me Entertain You. Place a drop of your nail lacquer on a piece of paper. Using your dotting tool (You don’t have to go out at buy a dotting tool. Others have used the ends of bobby pins or sewing pins.) dip the end into your drop of nail lacquer. With your dotting tool make one dot, dip again and make another dot within close vicinity of your first dot.Dip your dotting tool one more time in your drop of nail lacquer and connect the two dots, starting at one dot, making a V shape to connect to the next dot. And voila, a heart.

On my right nail finger I actually used the Hello Kitty nail art stickers from Sephora. I placed the rhinestones in the center of my nail before I applied the nail decals.

I think that’s it. It wasn’t exactly what I was imagining and it was a lot harder than I thought. Most of the time I didn’t know how I was going to do it or what I was doing exactly . All I can say is that I’m happy that I tried it at least once and that I didn’t give up. Here are a couple more pictures.

Happy polishing.
