Mermaid tails~~

Here is another “swatch” for the Muppets Collection by OPI. This collection is packed full of glitter nail polishes. And the glitters and packed full of glitter!! I love it!

This time I decided to use OPI Fresh Frog of Bel-Air.

But first of course I put down my foundation. I love OPI In the Spot Light Pink. It is perfect for a natural nail color, but it helps to even out the nail bed and primes the nail for more lacquer. Here is a picture of two fingers, one painted with OPI In the Spot Light Pink (left) and plain base coat (right).

It is hard to notice the difference, but you can see it is shinier. Sorry the lighting isn’t the best, but in person it is more apparent. You can click on the photo to make it larger if needed. Here is a picture of all my nails painted with slightly better lighting.

The next step I have done many times before…I used one of my favorite colors, OPI Mermaid’s Tears.

After two light even coats of MT, I did two coats of OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air.

These last few pictures I took the next day with better lighting.

My accent nail I did a little different. I used OPI MT and OPI Silver Shatter with one coat of OPI FFOBA.

That’s all folks!!

Happy Polishing! <3

Arrrrrr matey!!

Just came back from watching the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie On Stranger Tides. I spent all night and morning finishing my POTC manicure for the release of this movie. I really enjoyed this movie. I’m not big on 3D movies, my bf made a good point, it’s Disney. They wouldn’t waste a penny on something that wasn’t worth it. It was probably one of the most enjoyable 3D movies I’ve seen so far. Tons of action scenes, mermaids, good CG, and plenty of Johnny Depp (yummy).

But back to business…

Breakdown:

Mermaids Tears with Silver Shatter

On the base of each nail I used Skull & Glossbones by OPI from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection that was released May 1st. Here is Skull & Glossbones again complete with Mickey and crossbones that was created with OPI Black Onyx. I used the back of a sewing pin to create Mickey’s silhouette. For the crossbones I used my dotting tool, which was finer than the pin, and a very very thin brush to connect the heads of each bone. To create the stripes on each middle finger I used a good pair of scissors and tweezers. Cut each strip to any desired width and carefully place on nail. It’s best to leave parts hanging off that way it is easier to pull off the nail of course.

Stripes with Sparrow Me the Drama

Lastly I wanted to try shattering…shatter. So on my right ring finger and my left index finger I put a layer of silver shatter topped with black shatter. I put a layer of topcoat in between to ensure smooth shattering for the black shatter.

Black shatter on top of Silver Shatter

It’s a little hard to see because I used such a light base coat, but I’m sure if you were to use a brighter, contrasting color you would see a cooler effect.

That’s it! Hope you like it. And if you haven’t gone to see the movie yet, I definitely recommend it. And stay after the credits to watch the little snippet. The credits are really long, but I promise there is something at the end.

Happy polishing!!

Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirate’s life for me!

It finally came! May 1st, OPI released The Pirates of the Caribbean collection. This collection is complete with 6 pastel colors and silver shatter.  The colors are Skull and Glossbones, On Stranger Tides, Mermaid’s Tears, Steady as she Rose, Sparrow me the Drama, and Planks a Lot. I purchased all of the colors except for On Stranger Tides. On Stranger Tides is more of a light olive green color that I felt didn’t look very good on my skin tone. Sorry that swatch is not in this post so if you’re looking for that swatch, it is not here and turn back now. If you are thinking this is a post of ONLY swatches, IT IS NOT. I did swatches on one hand for you and got a little fancy on the other.

First, here are the swatches:

OPI Steady as she Rose

Love this color. It is a nice soft pastel pink/purple. So cute a creamy!

OPI Mermaid's Tears

One of my favorites of this collection. It’s like a soft, soft sage color. All these colors go on smooth. And even though they are creamy polishes, they aren’t as streaky as others can be.

OPI Skull and Glossbones

This is a great bone color. It is the best for Spring if you don’t want to go too bold with a white, but not as drab as a gray.

OPI Planks A Lot

Another favorite from the collection. It’s very similar to OPI A Grape Fit, quite possible off by one shade.

OPI Sparrow me the Drama

Another favorite. Who doesn’t love a pink like this?

Now to get a little “fancy”, I used all the colors that I purchased from the collection and placed random blobs on my nail like so.This “nail art” is super easy because there is no stickers, tape, fancy tools, or long wait times. Then I topped it with silver shatter. That’s it! It’s like a tie-dye/ stained glass effect. I’ll probably try this again with a bolder color scheme.

Suggestions:

1.I would suggest using silver shatter with a darker color underneath to see the shatter effect better.

2. If you’re going to try the blob technique I would try thin coats of silver shatter because it breaks apart more and you’ll be able to see more colors. If you apply a thick coat you get larger shards of shatter, but you won’t see the effects underneath as much.

Happy Monday everyone!

oh yeah and happy polishing! =)
